"This mid-size hotel is no 5 star but that's okay ...its only rated at 3.5 and that's about right. The room was clean and everything worked. The staff from front to back and top to bottom were all friendly and competent. The food was good, not great but the service was top drawer. The beach is fair to poor (non-existent at high tide) so its good that the pool is clean and 'looked after'. We liked the location ... half way from the Marina to downtown."

"We stayed the from Nov. 15 to Nov 23, 2010. All inclusive for two CAD$1150. We were a little worried about the hotel because of the reviews we read here, expedia etc. The complainers are spoiled brats! If you want 5 star then you have to pay for it! Our room was looking at the pool. - Try to get ground level that comes with a little walk out balcony on the pool side. The food was great. A La Carte until it got busy. But the buffet was excellent as well. The rooms were clean. The maid wouldn't even take the 20 pesos we left under a pillow unless we told her. Oh yeah. You get there cheap but don't be cheap to tip!!! A 20 pesos for each meal, under the pillow, pretty much whenever they do something extra for you. It's not even CAD$2 for crying out loud! And they will appreciate it so much! Treat them the way you want to be treated! It's the hospitality industry! They are living off the tips! The beach is small but not rocky. Maybe it was in 2007. And the beds have a foam mattress layer on them. So not hard at all. Once again maybe 2007. We will definitely would go back. And I don't work for the hotel! Email me @ peterszeles@hotmail.com and I'll confirm it. So if you want a 5* hotel pull out your wallet and don't come here. But if you want cheap - same city, same sea, same malecon etc - this is a great place."

"My husband and I just came back from a week stay at the Plaza Pelicanos. The hotel is split up into sections, the club section and the grand section. If you stay at the club section you can not use any part of the grand section. The beach club is across the street from the club section which gets confusing. In the evening the only bar that is open to guests of the club section is a very small sports bar which gets very warm. The buffet is terrible. Very small with very little selection. For the good part the al-a-carts were good and all staff are very friendly. The rooms were clean and a fair size."

"We loved the Pelicanos ..it has beautiful gardens ...we found the food to be very good ...at first we had a room facing the back ...not such a great view ...we asked to get a room facing the pool and a patio ...not all rooms have patios ..I think that was the only negative part ...its a great location ...Clean ...lots of fun ...the annimation team was fantastic ...got everyone involved ...it has little beach but you can pull your beach chair up to the wall and have a fantastic view of the ocean ..The sushi dinner is served on the pool deck over looking the ocean ...such a beautiful setting ..we stayed in the club section...all in all it was a wonderful resort ...great location ...a nice walk into the downtown area and old Vallarta ...we will go back for sure ...Mel and John ... "This was the worst accomadation we have had in Mexico..Rating is 4**** should be 2** We were there for 14 Days same under cooked food everyday with different sauces. My wife had food poisoning and I had to go to the bathroom four times aday. Very poor quality of food. Hotel states on web page No Spring Breakers for five days the hotel was full of loud Spring Breakers.
A health inspector needs to check out this kitchen. "

"The resort is beautiful. Pay for a Grand Section room, as it is not that much more expensive, and the available services are way better. The buildings for the rooms, and the pools are better. The beach was almost non-existent and rocky when we were there. Service is slow, but they will come and fix things, if you call them enough times.
The food is terrible. Beware of the food. There are feasts every three nights are so, and that food is fantastic. The other two days? We believed the buffet served the feast's food in different sauces. There was at least 10 people who got sick (i was one of them), while we were there, which caused us to stop eating the recycled food.
The best idea? Don't get the all inclusive, go downtown to eat. Don't think you need a cab to get to the Malecon, it is only a 20 minute walk. If you're unsure of where is good to eat, just follow the tourists. Traveled December 24-31 2007"

"Our stay at Pelicanos exceeded our expectations. Very clean surroundings, pleasant and helpful staff in all departments. They seem to know the value of their customers. The food was good at the A La Carte restaurants, yet the static and limited menus need some variety."

"Service was good, Room was OK (only 1 cockroach), food was average although small selection at buffet. Food and service was excellent at the International restaurant though. Good location for shopping and going into town. There was a very poor beach (basically small and not very swim friendly) but the pools were good. The oldest complex had a good pool that was very warm and quite quiet. The newest pool was good but cool and very noisy during the day. There was another adult pool that was very quiet but also quite cool. The shows were very cheezy and poor except for a couple that were excellent."
