"My vacation to Cayo Coco was AMAZING!! Cayo Coco, Cuba has the uniqueness of being an island that is solely inhabited by resorts. This means that since no one actually lives on the island that the island is very secure and safe!! You can leave your beach bag unattended all day long and not have to worry at all!! Also the island is attached to the mainland by a causeway which makes for easy access to mainland Cuba. This allows for day excursions onto the mainland to really see the culture and lifestyle of everyday Cuba, so therefore this small island offers the security of an all resort island but easy access to local communities. PERFECT PLACE!!"

"Best vacation ever.I went with my sister and we met so many people ,food was Good,weather great,room even better.We got ocean view room even we did not pay for it.Great.The only thing I will always regret not getting a phone number of a great guy that i met.I would go there again for sure."

"I booked my daughter and her friends with escapes they went to Cuba. I went to pick them up on the 21st of February but their plane did not arrive. After arguing with escapes for information and was told she was 19 and could not give me info because she was an adult. After complaining when she still did not arrive on the 22 I was told the plane was grounded due to winds and the girls were together safe in a hotel.
Canjet had voicemail I could not get a live person, Hola Sun did not have a number I could reach.
My daughter finally arrived on the 23 dehydrated with a fever. I came to discover that the hotel she was put in on Sunday the 21st had prostituting in the lobby, blood in the sheets, bed bugs, cats running everywhere and drag racing in the streets. They were brought to the airport on the 22 where they spent the whole time until taking off when canjet finally flew in another plane because their flight had mechanical problems. They could not get any water from the time they left the resort.

"I have been to The Blau Colonial in Cayo Coco twice now. My girlfriend and went in March 2008 and then again July 2008. The beaches are amazing!! The food is not the best, but the people are so wonderful!! It was for sure the people that made us want to go back. All the staff is friendly and helpful. We went on 1 tour, the Jungle Boating adventure. So much fun!! Totally go!! We rented scooters for a day. We had a blast touring the island. Because there are no locals there is hardly and traffic so you can just go! Just remember to put sunscreen on your hands! Hmm what else. Oh we rented a car and drove into real Cuba, Moron. Wow what a crazy and sad life. It was a great eye opener. Anyway totally will be going again soon!!"

"Cayo Guillermo has the most beautiful beach, long white soft sand and crystal clear turquoise water. Go there for the beach and water, nothing else. Once you're there, you're basically cut off from the seeing any of the real Cuba, unless you want a 2 hour bus ride into the nearest small town. Next trip I'll try Mexico."

"It should also be noted that Cuba in general and Cayo Coco in particular, is reasonably safe for travelers, compared to many other destinations. We feel very safe when we travel there, and have not had reason to feel otherwise. And after five trips to Cuba, Havana to Holguin, we plan on many more to come. As for the current situation on the island regarding the three hurricanes, we did not see any evidence of hurricane damage in Cayo Coco - it was business as usual. However, there was evidence that the country was going through food shortages - at the buffet, chicken was not available, and the seafood was being imported. On the matter of tipping - I'm still on the learning curve myself - I have found that a pesos (Canadian coins are useless to them) for every second or third drink results in much improved service, most of the time. A pesos for every drink will result in even better service, most of the time. Including a smile and treating the Cuban staff with respect will increase it even further... If you are a scuba diver or a snorkeler, Cayo Coco is a good destination, as the reef is the second largest in the world. We did the catamaran excursion in order to snorkel, but because of strong winds, did not see much of the reef. What we did see was enough to make us want to go back and try again. As for the catamaran excursion, this is a one-size fits-all open-bar kind of a deal - some people were just interested in getting loaded, which I found a bit annoying. We may try and book a dive boat / snorkeling excursion next time, at the dive center, with people that are more interested in seeing the beautiful reef and less interested in throwing up over the side of a catamaran after too many free cervazas… There are dive centers at the melia and the tryp, walking distance from the krystal. On our limited snorkeling outing, we managed to see many different colored fish - snappers, angels, sergeant majors, trumpets, four starfish, and one Lionfish - Lionfish are native to the Pacific Ocean, it could only have landed in Cayo Coco through a ride in a ship's ballast tanks…we did see many ships on the horizon…"
